UCR Website - Pacific Campus
During my final year at university, I had the opportunity to be part of the team that created the new website for the Pacific Campus of the University of Costa Rica.
The project involved migrating the old site from Drupal 7 to a new WordPress platform. It was my first experience working on a real-world project, where I collaborated in an agile environment and gained hands-on experience with team-based development.
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring a smooth transition while maintaining full functionality and preserving the user experience. To achieve this, we carefully analyzed the original site’s structure, adapted the content, and developed custom solutions to optimize the platform.
I also contributed to the development of custom plugins to extend WordPress functionality, improve performance, and meet the specific needs of the campus. This experience not only strengthened my technical skills but also sharpened my problem-solving abilities and teamwork.
Here are some key highlights from my role in the project:
Key Points
- Website Migration: Led the transition from Drupal 7 to WordPress.
- Agile Methodologies: Applied agile practices in a collaborative, real-world project.
- User Experience & Functionality: Ensured a smooth migration without losing features or usability.
- Custom Development: Developed tailored solutions, including custom WordPress plugins.
- Technical & Soft Skills: Improved problem-solving, teamwork, and technical expertise.
NOTE: I worked on this project in 2023. The website might look very different now.
